A full-size airer for everything that should not go near a tumble dryer — wool, cashmere, swimwear, gym kit, anything with elastane. It opens to 107cm tall with enough rail to take a washing load, then folds flat and goes behind a door.

Alloy steel rather than coated plastic, and rated to 22.7kg, so wet towels and jeans do not make it sag in the middle. That sag is what kills cheap airers: the frame bows, the clothes slide into the centre and stop drying.

Glass bodies and silicone seals wash normally. Hand-wash any wooden lid and dry it straight away; a dishwasher dries the wood out and splits it.
